EDS selects iCapture™ for State of Michigan Bureau for
its Document
Management & Imaging System
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--November 03, 2003
The State of Michigan Bureau of Workers’ and Unemployment
Compensation has been involved in an aggressive program to improve
its claims processing capability, significantly reduce the time
involved in responding to citizen requests and, at the same time,
reduce its operational costs. One of the first parts of this program
was the design and implementation of a very comprehensive imaging
and workflow system based on the FileNet suite of products and
EDS Corporation was responsible for the successful implementation
of this solution. As an extension of this Automated Work Distribution
System, the Bureau also determined that it had to make significant
improvements in its ability to rapidly and accurately capture
the data that was being sent to the Bureau on over 20,000 forms
each day. In addition to the high volume of documents, the Bureau
was handling over 60 types of forms and, on average, almost one
half the daily volume of forms were being received via facsimile.
In November, 2003 EDS and the Bureau selected Impression Technology’s
iCapture solution for automated data capture as this suite of
products provided an integrated system that could deal with the
paper transactions, the fax input and the identified desire to
increase electronic submittals within a proven system that had
been in production at other State sites where the requirements
closely matched those of the Bureau. In addition to gaining the
proven data capture benefits that iCapture could provide, the
State could take advantage of the fact that this suite of software
had already been integrated with FileNet, thereby reducing the
cost and risk of the planned engagement.
Following a formal Requirements Definition and Detailed Design,
Impression Technology delivered a customized version of iCapture
to the Bureau in June, 2004. In order to conform to the IT strategy
of the Bureau, the iCapture software was installed on Servers
in Lansing, Michigan while all actual system operations occur
in the new Work Distribution Center (WDC) that was established
in Grand Rapids. Document scanning is accomplished using the Kodak
i840 scanners and 35 workstations support the data perfection
and indexing operations within the WDC.
The project was completed on schedule and budget. For additional
information on this project please contact Bruce Lechner, Vice
President, at 925.280.0010, ext. 20.
