California Performance Review Cites EDD Success
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--August 30, 2004
The recent California Performance Review report, prepared for
Governor Schwarzenegger, cites the success of the Tax Engineering
and Modernization (TEAM) project that was performed by the California
Employment Development Department (EDD) in 2001. As all of the
data capture operations within EDD are accomplished using Impression
Technology’s iCapture system, Impression was pleased to
see that the savings and benefits that are being realized through
the use of iCapture were specifically highlighted in this widely
publicized Report. The Report states:
“EDD’s new system uses advanced technologies
such as high speed mail opening equipment; document imaging, storage
and retrieval; electronic document management; Optical Character
Recognition; Intelligent Character Recognition; and automated
workflow. These technologies enable EDD to substantially improve
the speed and efficiency of its mail opening, data capture, cashiering
and fund allocation processes and provide the department with
document imaging, storage and retrieval capabilities.” The
Report continues by stating; “According to the Tax Engineering
and Modernization Project Post Implementation Evaluation Report,
EDD was able to reduce or redirect more than 450 positions and
save more then $18 million per year in administrative costs. Upgrading
BOE’s and FTB’s systems should produce similar savings
and efficiencies.”
